About Crocs

Crocs, Inc., is a retailer of casual footwear for men, women and children, specializing in rubber clogs, flip-flops and sandals headquartered in Niwot, Colorado. Crocs shoes are made from their patented Croslite™ material that is soft, comfortable, lightweight, non-marking, odor-resistant, and comes in hundreds of different colors.

Founded by Scott Seamans and Lyndon Hanson in 2002 in Boulder, Colorado, Crocs were originally designed to be a boating shoe. At the unveiling at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Crocs sold all 200 pairs.

June 2004, Crocs bought Foam Creations to get exclusive rights to their patented Croslite material that is now used to create almost all Crocs products. The material forms itself to the wearer’s feet and has supposed health benefits. Crocs holds various patents involved with the design and functionality of Crocs shoes.

In 2006, Crocs acquired Jibbitz, an accessories manufacturer that produced the plastic snaps used in Crocs shoes, paying $10 million for the company. In January 2007, Crocs acquired Ocean Minded, a leather and synthetic footwear seller. In July of that same year, Crocs purchase Bite Footwear for $1.75 million, a Redmond, Washington based sandal maker. In April 2008, Crocs acquired Tidal Trade, Inc., a South African distributor of Crocs shoes for $4.6 million. A few weeks later, the company acquired Tagger International, a Dutch manufacturer of messenger bags.

Throughout its history, Crocs has sold over 300 million pairs of shoes in more than 90 countries. The company employs over 4,500 people and now has over 500 stores around the world. The crocs original clog still makes up about 45% of company sales. Crocs has also donated 3 million pairs of shoes since 2007.

Crocs provides an extensive benefits program that includes dental, medical, vision, 401K, FSA, Employee Assistance Program, complimentary shoes and discount programs for all its employees. Crocs also strives to promote a healthy and lifestyle for its employees with fitness classes and an on site gym as well as camaraderie with ice cream thursdays and cocktail hours once a month.
