An Interview with GreaseGirl

by Anne Middleton, on August 26th, 2015

For Kristin Cline, the lightbulb moment that eventually led to the creation of her blog GreaseGirl, came when she took her Studebaker to its first car show in Las Vegas a few years ago, and realized how few female enthusiasts she could find.

Kristin didn't grow up going to car shows. It wasn't until her early twenties, when she became interested in swing dancing and vintage style, that her passion for classic cars also began to blossom. She eventually purchased her very own 1955 Studebaker Coupe, and immediately began restoration on it.

Since that time, Kristin has been divulging all the trials and tribulations of classic car restoration and maintenance on her blog GreaseGirl. Full of road stories, DIY project how-tos, and industry info, GreaseGirl's design creates a fun, user-friendly space for novices and auto aficionados alike to call home.

Kristin says she's grateful for the many opportunities the blog has given her to hone her own skills as an automotive writer as well as the chance to connect with fellow female classic car buffs. Whether attending an auto show, driving her Studebaker around town, or sharing adventures via GreaseGirl, Kristin's auto passion has made a lot of new friends out of former strangers.

While Kristin's auto avidity is not without its challenges (she recently completed a series of projects that kept her beloved Studie in the garage for several months), she is always eager to blaze new trails.

Currently the editor of Driving Line Magazine, Kristin says her next feat will be opening her own female-focused garage within the next five years. "I want to make getting your oil changed an experience," Kristin says. Drawing on her background with organizations that fight human trafficking, Kristin's mission also includes creating a non-profit component to the business that gives at-risk women mechanical job training.

Kristin's hope is that through her blog, and eventually her garage, she can continue to use her own adventures and snafus to "build a bridge to connect with those who share my desire regardless of their skill level or knowledge".
