How Unhealthy Is Binge Watching?

by Anne Middleton, on January 4th, 2016

Before you get that tablet and ready to binge-watch, consider investing in a fitness tracker too.  A study from the University of Texas indicated binge watchers are more likely to be depressed.   Likewise, it’s been well-documented that the more TV you watch, the more likely you are to pack on the pounds.  Binge watching TV is no different according to health experts and too much of a good show can up your risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.   Now, here’s another known fact.  Exercise can help alleviate symptoms of depression, which to me means that if you’re going to binge watch, schedule in exercise breaks.

Earn that next episode by breaking a sweat.  You’ll be glad you did, or even better, watch it on a iPad from T-Mobile while on the treadmill.  Miss something?  You can always rewind.  There are even apps like 5 Minute Home Workouts on the Apple app store, so watch House of Cards, but budget some time to exercise in between episodes.  After all, the machinations of Frank Underwood can be pretty intense.  Another thing you can do is invest in a wearable fitness tracker like the Adidas miCoach Fit Smart from Verizon.  How many calories did you really burn shoveling snow? You might be surprised.

Many things can make us want to hole up and close off during the winter.  It’s too cold.  We miss our families during the holidays.  Perhaps the weight of a bad year has taken its toll.  Regardless, if you are planning some binge watching, do something good for your health and intersperse some physical activity.  You’ll be glad you did and always shop with our codes and save on all sorts of mobile devices.
