Taken For Granted

The other day, strolling through the aisles of the local grocery store, I encountered a young couple engaged in a serious discussion over what type of mustard to purchase.  There were over nine varieties of this yellow condiment available on the shelves and they could not seem to agree on what would be the best option.

It got my mind working about the numerous items we take for granted in our daily lives, such as:

1. Radio Shows
No, we don’t take radio for granted, but the plethora of radio shows available to us as we begin our commute every day is astounding.  Whether it is sports talk radio, rock and roll music, songs referred to as “oldies” or talk radio, the fact that each of us has the freedom choose our favorite morning radio show and flip through the stations is something we take for granted.

2. Television
Similarly, we take for granted that when we click our remote control, the television will instantly switch on and our hundred s of options for viewing free entertainment will appear.  In fact, if the TV becomes unavailable, we immediately jump up off the couch to call our cable company to complain.  Imagine the millions of people who lack this option.

3. Email
Yes, young readers, there was a time when email did not exist and people communicated in phone or via a land line telephone.  In our technologically focused world today, if our email becomes unavailable even for a nano-second, there is panic.  The question becomes, is it a good thing that we take email for granted?  Hmmm….

4. Computer Security
The majority of Americans believe that when they hop on their computer, regardless if snuggled up at home, at their jobs, on the beach or enjoying a latte at a friendly coffee house,  they can engage in electronic communication that is secure and protected against cyber villains.

Nothing is further from the truth.

The news is filled with stories of hackers and evil individuals constantly attempting to penetrate our PCs and MACs and hacking our information.  So do not take technology security for granted!

BitDefender provides downloadable anti-virus options to help eliminate all bugs, Trojan Horses, worms and other viruses with just a single click. With Bitdefender’s superior software, you obtain an extra line of security against malware and Trojan horses with a simple click.

One of the leading technology protection companies, McAfee, offers unique “two-way firewall system monitors.” This remarkable program forbids unwanted traffic in and out of your PC, even if it tries to connect to suspicious servers

Do you own multiple devices on different operating systems?  Norton offers one service to protect all you devices. It maintains your privacy, no matter what electronic gadget you are employing.  With Norton, you can search the web in a clandestine manner, behind their invisible security curtain.

We have oodles and loads of things that we take for granted each day.  Don’t let yourself be fooled and let cyber security be something you take for granted…it may result in calamitous consequences.
